Police are investigating the shooting death of a man in the Mount Vernon area late last (Wednesday) night. Officers were initially called to investigate a noise complaint at the intersection of San Leandro Place and Mendocino Place at about 11:30 PM. Upon arrival they found a 47-year-old man sitting in a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. A federal audit of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, which operates Dulles and Reagan National Airports and is building the Metrorail Silver Line, finds fault with the board’s policies for awarding contracts and controlling travel and entertainment expenses. U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood today announced that new nonstop flights will be available to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport from four cities that, because of distance, had earlier been ineligible for nonstop service. Police have arrested a Centreville man in connection with destruction of property at the construction site of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Mosque, located at 4555 Ahmadiyya Drive. Twenty-eight individuals have been arrested for their alleged roles in a cocaine trafficking ring based in Northern Virginia that uses couriers to regularly import large amounts of cocaine from Honduras hidden in shoes and decorative wooden frames.
