Project Counts Reston Walkers and Bikers
How many people travel on bikes or on foot in Reston? That’s the subject of an upcoming project to count bicyclists and pedestrians. You may see volunteers at intersections watching as cyclists and walkers pass by. The volunteers may also be documenting helmet usage.
This is part of a national, two-day project, The National Pedestrian and Bicycling Documentation Project, designed to develop a consistent model for data collection and provide ongoing data for planners, communities and biking and pedestrian professionals.
The Reston Associations’pedestrian and biking advisory committee is organizing the local event, will take place for two hours in mornings and evenings on Tuesday, September 11,Wednesday, September 12 and Thursday, September 13.
The National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project is a joint effort of Alta Planning & Design, The institute of Transportation Engineers and the Pedestrian and Bicycle Council.
